WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE AN ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN?
An Academic All-American recognition is a title given by the Academic All-America Program to student-athletes that have excelled in the classroom while competing for their University.
A student-athlete is only eligible to be nominated for Academic All-American if they consistently compete for the University, maintain a GPA of 3.30+ and have competed in at least 50% of the season’s games.
To receive an Academic All-American status is prestigious and all Universities in America aim to have Academic All-Americans on their athletic teams. It shows that their program and their athletes not only perform well athletically, but also take pride in their academics.
