About Otto

Why do you want to compete in college?
I want to compete in college because it would be an incredible opportunity to experience and take part-in whilst playing the game I love. Rugby is in my DNA as my relatives Divan Serfontein played for the South African Springboks during the 1980’s as well as Jan Serfontein who played during the 2010’s. It would also allow me to meet new people outside of Australia.

What do you want to study?
Business Studies

Tell us 5 words that best describe you as a person:
Easy-going, Kind, Trustworthy, Loyal, and Resilient

What is your best memory from rugby?
My best memory from rugby would be scoring five tries in one game and scoring the game-winning try in the same game as well as celebrating with my team after each score and winning the game.

To Whom it may concern,

As Otto Serfontein's 1st XV Rugby Coach, I have had significant involvement with him over the past two (2) years.

The majority of rugby players at Cranbrook aspire to become a member of the 1st XV, and Otto was no exception, committing himself without question to the required six (6) to eight (8) training sessions per week, as well as attendance on game day at varying locations. This was in addition to the substantial demands on his curricular activities.

Throughout my time at Cranbrook, I have found Otto to be a very committed and professional team member. He has always worked tirelessly to improve his skills and is a true team player, being rewarded with selection in the Cranbrook 1st XV in the 2021 and 2022 seasons. After both seasons, Otto received awards. In 2022, he was awarded the 'Doug Watt Memorial Award' for Most Outstanding Back. Otto also gained CAS representative selection for the CAS XV Representative team.

I have the highest regard for Otto. He is deservedly held in high esteem by the staff and his peers at Cranbrook. He is one of our most outstanding young men, demonstrating initiative, determination, and persistence in all his areas of endeavour. He is a mature, well-presented, friendly, and consistently courteous young man who is trustworthy and reliable. Despite his achievements, he shows humility and genuine compassion for others. I believe him to be of excellent character. I recommend him to you without hesitation.

Warm best wishes,

 Mr Bradley Gill

Rawson Housemaster / 1st XV Rugby Coach
