About Charlotte

Why do you want to compete in college?
College Volleyball is such an incredible opportunity to grow, not only as a player, but also as a person. There will be lows and highs throughout the four years that will strengthen my resilience that little bit more and turn me into the best version of myself possible.

What do you want to study?
Astrophysics, Literature or Classics

Tell us 5 words that best describe you as an athlete:
Determined, resilient, hard-working, perseverant, and gritty.

Tell us 5 words that best describe you as a person:
Humorous, compassionate, warm, disciplined and enthusiastic.

What is your best memory from volleyball?
My favourite memory from playing volleyball was when I was playing in the bronze medal match for the Queensland Premier Volleyball League in 2021. It was a set a peace, we were in the third set and down 9-13. We ended up coming back to win the set and game 16-14. The energy that seemed to thrum on the court was electric, and that was when I decided “yep, I want to stay on the court forever.”

To whom it may concern,

My name is Brighid Scanlon and I am happy to offer my recommendation of Charlotte Smith, whom I have had the pleasure of coaching in volleyball since April of 2022.

Charlotte is a very hardworking and kind individual who often takes initiative. She always takes the time to complement her teammates as well as make them feel included, whether in conversations or volleyball drills. As an athlete, Charlotte is extremely driven to learn and improve. She often seeks advice on volleyball technique and strategy in an effort to improve her skills. On the court, she is an anchor for the team, both in terms of her reliability in the passing line and her communication with her teammates. Off the court, she encourages her teammates and helps with in/out calls.

As a volleyball player, Charlotte is quite skilled in back court. She mainly trains and plays as a back court specialist or libero, and she does not hesitate to scramble or dive for the ball. Moreover, she is very reliable and strategic in the passing line. For example, she takes more space when next to a weaker passer who is being targeted by the server to lessen the pressure on them and force the server to aim somewhere else.

With regards to her attitude, Charlotte is positive, encouraging, hardworking, motivated, and passionate for the sport of volleyball as a whole. In addition, she is extremely coachable. When being coached, Charlotte is receptive and makes a conscious effort to implement the advice given. She also is extremely understanding about court time, and prioritises others and the game over her own court time when necessary.

Charlotte still has much to learn, but she would be an excellent fit for a college volleyball team due to her current skills as well as her positive personality and driven attitude.
